Chinese Scientists Slow Glacier Melt with High-Tech "Blankets"

Chinese scientists are using special "blankets", which are high-tech insulating materials, to protect the Dagu Glacier in Sichuan province from rapid melting. Over 7,000 square meters have been covered since 2020, reducing ice melt by up to 3 meters annually.

The innovative approach, employing radiation-cooling nanomaterials, shows promising results in preserving the glacier that had retreated 76% since 1989. Researchers continue expanding coverage while advocating for broader climate action to address glacial retreat globally. (Photo provided to China Youth Daily)
