Beijing Daxing Airport prepares for over 10 million passengers during summer rush

Beijing Daxing International Airport is set to handle over 10 million passenger trips during this year's summer travel rush, as it gears up for an influx of students, families, and leisure travelers.
During the 62-day period from July 1 to Aug 31, the airport is projected to manage 62,200 flights, averaging 1,003 flights per day, marking a 10.46 percent increase from the previous period and a 2.24 percent rise year-on-year, according to airport officials.
Passenger throughput is expected to reach 10.12 million, with a daily average of about 163,200 passengers, reflecting a 15.58 percent increase month-on-month and a 2.85 percent growth year-on-year. The peak travel day is forecasted for Aug 20, when the airport anticipates handling 1,132 flights and 184,400 passenger trips.
Domestic demand is projected to remain strong on routes linking Beijing with major cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. Destinations such as Kunming, Guiyang, Harbin, and Urumqi are also becoming popular as travelers seek cooler summer retreats.
On international and regional routes, Daxing Airport currently serves over 40 destinations. Passenger flows are expected to focus on routes to Moscow, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Seoul, with increasing demand for Vladivostok, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Recently, the airport launched direct flights to Frankfurt, Milan, and Lisbon, with a direct route to Bali scheduled to begin on July 11, further expanding outbound travel options.
To manage higher traffic and potential disruptions from thunderstorms and severe weather, the airport is collaborating with airlines, air traffic control, and ground transport operators to enhance operational efficiency and passenger flow. Additional flights will be arranged as needed, with the potential for up to 170 extra daily flights. The airport will also strengthen connections with airport buses, the Daxing Airport Express subway line, and taxi services to ensure smoother passenger arrivals and departures.
A range of passenger services, including multilingual assistance, cultural performances, smart customer service, and shuttle services, will be provided throughout the summer season.
