“We came as friends and left as family” — a German competitor's message in Chinese, left at the painting and decorating stand, summed up six days of competition in Shanghai. The 48th WorldSkills Competition closed on Sept. 27 after drawing 1,385 competitors mostly in their late teens and twenties from 68 countries and regions, competing in 64 skills from welding to drone systems. China won 41 golds, and Chinese competitor He Xiaoman took the Albert Vidal Award, given to the highest-scoring competitor overall. The flag passes to Japan's Aichi prefecture for 2028.
